Bearing in mind how old this model is, do you think i would be wiser to look for a more recent model? I'd probably go secondhand because it really is just a 'front end', but all the newer humax boxes seem to incorporate a recorder. Any thoughts?
Having sorted a firmware problem with the kind help of forum members, it seems that there is a problem with my RF input. The i/o 'module' seems to be solidly soldered to the main board, but there is a slight movement at the input socket. I've tried it with different leads in different locations...
Not mentioned, but i prefer a supernatural explanation :-) I'm sure the box was exhibiting all the original problems and wasn't touched - other than possibly being switched into standby - before performing as it should.
It wasn't for want of trying :)
Just as a postscript. After writing my last message i left the humax plugged in upstairs (where the weaker signals are). Since then - 48hrs and counting - the box has worked perfectly!
A quick update for those who have not lost the will to live.
To cut a very long story short, I discovered the flashing screens were down to the v-format button and now the only problem that remains is the dropping and/or breaking up of (mostly HD) channels i.e. pretty much full circle.
I've...
Thanks. I managed to find my way to here:
https://wiki.hummy.tv/wiki/Firmware_Downloads
which is pretty typical of the way things have gone on this particular journey!
Thanks. These minor problems seem to have been superseded by the box malfunctioning badly as described after being returned to the standard firmware 1.03.02. I had pretty much given up with this, but decided to reinstall the CF as a last ditch. However, i can't seem to find it - the wiki link...
The 'update date' is 14 Nov 2014, rather than 13 Mar 2022 - is that what you'd expect?
EDIT - it's also 'breaking up' on channels that are working perfectly on my TV, which is fed by the aeria passing through the humax.
Thanks for the link and information. Unfortunately, i really get the feeling now that the box is knackered. Since installing the stock firmware changing channels has often become a lengthy business of flashing screens, green screens and 'snow' screens. Sometimes the process takes up to 10...
Unfortunately, this seems to be the way things are moving in modern Freeview televisions. Sony (Android) is a perfect example having dumped what was previously a perfect EPG interface.
These suggestions seem interesting. As usual, my expertise restricts my ability to understand quite what you mean. To undertake these 'hacks' i would presumably need to reinstall the CF?
That's good to know. Not as good as the 9200t, but a useful feature nonetheless.
