And where do you go from there (apart from adding s/d/or)? You need to start removing letters not adding them and there's no easy way.

There are plenty of words starting investigat... - investigation, investigatory, etc - but no way out of the root as far as I can see.

Instigate could have been followed by institute then destitute, but I'm not sure where that would go next.

It had to end somewhere, sooner or later. Does anyone want to suggest a new game with a different succession rule, or do you want me to come up with something?

Probably before that, but I tried shortening it to 7 with "imitate", which there were ways out of, but nobody took them.
